Medusa Maas
Work Packages
WP1 – Project management and coordination
This WP focuses on coordinating financial and administrative reporting while ensuring seamless communication with EC partners, managing and monitoring scientific activities to guarantee progress and timely delivery of results, implementing robust risk management measures, and promoting gender equality alongside addressing ethical issues.
WP2 – Methodological framework and technical architecture of the MaaS platform
WP2 establishes the foundation for the project by defining the MaaS framework’s requirements and technical specifications, analyzing use-case contexts, developing a decentralized data management strategy, assessing data security risks, and designing the MEDUSA platform architecture, including the extension of IEC 61499 for decentralized factory automation.
WP3 – Secure and privacy-preserving IT infrastructure and data management
WP3 focuses on developing the MEDUSA IT platform with objectives to implement the data management approach, develop the platform’s back-end and front-end, implement security protocols, and integrate blockchain-based services for trusted data sharing, tracing, and smart contract execution.
WP4 – Edge-cloud components for production monitoring and control
WP4 focuses on developing the OT layer, including the IEC 61499 ontology for unified object usage, engineering platform deployment between MaaS platforms, edge computing and communication mechanisms, service-oriented interfaces for automation and MaaS platforms, and IEC 61499 compliance integration (CPSizer) for use cases.
WP5 – AI-based services for a sustainable, traceable and circular manufacturing
This WP focuses on implementing AI-based services, including a matchmaking tool using LCA data for sustainable production options, LLM-powered services for developing ontologies and enhancing communication, an AI tool for production monitoring and optimization, a digital twin for simulating production and supply chain processes, and an LCA assessment tool for defining a DPP.
WP6 – Technologies integration and validation over the use cases
WP6 aims to integrate and validate the developed framework and tools through use case scenarios, including integrating multi-tier edge platform layers and AI tools in the IT layer, reviewing scenarios and KPIs for validation, executing and demonstrating scenarios, and analyzing results to assess the MEDUSA framework’s effectiveness and value.
WP7 – Communication, dissemination & exploitation
WP7 ensures business strategy execution, dissemination, and communication for the MEDUSA project, focusing on exploitation, market potential, IPR management, and developing a global strategy. It handles communication at events and public dissemination of results.
