MEDUSA at I-ESA 2026: a workshop on interoperability, AI and knowledge services

26 May 2026

The MEDUSA project took part in I-ESA 2026, the international event dedicated to enterprise interoperability, held in Madeira. On this occasion, on Tuesday 14 April, MEDUSA organised and hosted the workshop “Toward Trusted, Interoperable and AI-Enabled Enterprise Knowledge Services”.

The session represented an important opportunity to exchange views with the scientific and industrial community on interoperability, knowledge management and the use of artificial intelligence in enterprise processes. In particular, the workshop addressed key topics for the evolution of the project, including AI-driven knowledge formalisation, ontology engineering for enterprise interoperability, human-in-the-loop approaches, Large Language Models, knowledge graphs and semantic retrieval applied to industrial contexts.

The discussion made it possible to explore how to overcome semantic fragmentation, foster the reuse of expert knowledge and make industrial knowledge operational beyond the boundaries of individual organisations. These topics are fully aligned with MEDUSA’s objectives, as the project aims to promote a Manufacturing as a Service framework based on secure data exchange, traceability, collaboration between companies and the intelligent valorisation of information across the production value chain.

The workshop was coordinated by Matteo D’Auria from Spindox, Dimitris Spatharakis from the National Technical University of Athens, Massimo Goletti from Consorzio MUSP and Régis Hamelin from BLUMORPHO. The quality of the work carried out and the relevance of the topics addressed were also recognised through the Best Workshop Award.

MEDUSA’s participation in I-ESA 2026 confirms the project’s commitment to contributing to the European debate on trusted, interoperable and AI-enabled knowledge services, while strengthening collaboration with the research community, industrial stakeholders and projects active within the European innovation ecosystem.
